ALGONA - Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire's season came to an abrupt end as the Titans lost 7-4 to Cornbelt Conference rival West Bend-Mallard in a Class 1A District 3 game on Tuesday.
"It was a tough loss," said GT/RA coach Corey Boe. "We were winning or tied for most of the game. We had three costly errors that turned into runs for them. We had a tough time overcoming the errors. WBM is a very good team. They didn't make mistakes, we did. But we played a tough game."
The Titans jumped out to an early lead. While Alex Hoffman led off the game with a single, he was thrown out trying to steal second.

Andrew Aeilts then reached base, swinging at a strike-three wild pitch that got past the West Bend-Mallard catcher and allowed him to get to first. Michael Girres drew a walk and both runners advanced on a second ball that got away from the Wolverine catcher. A single to left-center by Kyle Dalen scored both runs.
The Wolverines got one run back in the bottom of the inning with Titans' starter Justin Rodrigues giving up a pair of leadoff walks with Jason Zinnel's single driving in a run. Rodrigues set the next two batters down on strikes, but then hit the next batter to load the bases. A pop up ended the threat.
With one out in the bottom of the second, the Wolverines got a bloop single from Jeff Reisenberg and two walks loaded the bases. A fielder's choice brought in one run and a passed ball scored the second as the Wolverines took a 3-2 lead.
The Titans tied the game with a run in the top of the third, but West Bend-Mallard scored two each in the third and fourth innings. GT/RA mustered just one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Rodrigues went four innings, giving up seven runs (five earned) on three hits with four strikeouts and nine walks.
At the plate, the Titans finished with 10 hits with Hoffman, Aeilts and Andy Geelan each going 2-3. Dalen was 1-4 with two RBIs while Marcus Girres was 1-3 with an RBI and Michael Girres was 1-4. Rodrigues finished 1-2.
