Titans, Warriors earn honors

Teams wrap up final season in the Cornbelt

North Union and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire both finished in the middle of the pack in the Cornbelt Conference as the league wrapped up its final baseball season in 2014.

Five Warriors and five Titans were named to the all-conference teams.

For GT/RA, which finished with a 4-3 record in the league, coach Corey Boe was named conference coach of the year.

Also, Titans' sophomore catcher Michael Girres and senior outfielder Andrew Aeilts were named to the first team while sophomore pitcher Taylor Enderson, senior utility player Kyle Dalen and sophomore utility player Alex Hoffman earned second team honors.

Girres batted .318 in league play with seven hits including one double, one triple and nine RBIs. He also drew a team-high eight walks in league play. Aeilts batted .478 with 11 hits and 10 RBIs.

Enderson was 2-0 in three starts in league play. In 19 innings, he gave up 10 earned runs for an earned run average of 3.68. He had 16 strikeouts and nine walks. Opponents batted .167 against him. Dalen batted .381 in the league with eight hits including three doubles and four RBIs.

Hoffman batted .538 in league play with 14 hits including four doubles and eight RBIs.

For North Union, senior first baseman Spencer Ricke, sophomore second baseman Colin Runksmeier, senior shortstop Cody Runksmeier and junior utility player Corey Vaske were named to the first team while junior outfielder Braden Ortman earned second team honors.

Ricke batted .356 with nine hits including two doubles and eight RBIs. Colin Runksmeier batted .308 with eight hits including three doubles and three RBIs. Cody Runksmeier batted .393 with 11 hits including five doubles, a triple and eight RBIs. Vaske batted .304 with seven hits including a double, a triple and eight RBIs. Ortman batted .333 with six hits and five RBIs.
