What’s going on at the Extension?

August 8, 2014
by Britney Rosburg - ISU Extension Program Educator , Estherville News

Another fair is in the history books and what a great fair it was! There were many outstanding projects and livestock entries this year and the weather was wonderful! Thank you to all the youth, volunteers, and community support for making the 2014 Emmet County Fair such a success.

I am excited to be able to offer a farm generational transition program, Managing for Today and Tomorrow beginning August 19. Women from all ages and stages in life will benefit from this program by learning about business, estate, retirement and succession planning from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach specialists and area professionals. In addition to brief presentations, there will be discussions based on participant questions and follow-up activities for family members to complete at home. The "Managing for Today and Tomorrow: Farm Transition Planning" program, a new Annie's Project course, has been scheduled for this fall in Graettinger on Tuesday evenings; Aug. 19 through Sept. 16.

The cost is $75 per person, which includes a 300-page workbook with fact sheets, hands-on activities, and presentations. A light supper will be served before each class at 5:30 p.m. Course size is limited, so please register soon. Registration can be done online at: or by contacting Emmet County Extension and Outreach at (712) 32-3434.

Another upcoming program is the Caregiver Beginnings Workshop. At this workshop, a variety of caregiving topics will be discussed including, falls, talking about driving, locating resources, and designing a care plan. Participants will leave the workshop with a better understanding of a variety of long-term services and support, along with specific information on resources available. This workshop is offered on Sunday, August 17 from 2 to 4:30 pm at the Nazareth Lutheran Church at 401 5th St. Armstrong. This program is free to all participants and registration can be done by calling Emmet County Extension and Outreach at (712) 362-3434.
