Welcome new ELC teachers

Sixteen new teachers will grace the classrooms and halls of Estherville Lincoln Central this fall. Among them are a familiar faces as well as many who in Estherville for the first time. Here is a brief introduction to these staff members..

Megan Anderson

Hometown: Estherville

Position at ELC: Second grade teacher

What do you like best about working with students?

Establishing a relationship with the students and watching their growth through the year.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

The community and school district are supportive.

Sam Beernink

Hometown: Sioux Center

Education: Bachelor of Arts at Central

Family: Parents Gloria and Scott Beernink and sister Molly Wilker

Position at ELC: Third/Fourth grade math and reading

What do you like best about working with students?

I enjoy watching students grow.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

I enjoy the feel of community.

Kelsie Christensen

Hometown: Estherville

Education: BA from Iowa State, master's degree from Morningside

Family: Michael Christensen husband

Position at ELC: Middle School Special Ed Level 2

What do you like best about working with students?

I enjoy forming positive relationships with students as families, as well as seeing the progress students make over the course of the year.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

Estherville has strong community support and pride for their students and school.

Joe Clark

Hometown: Spencer

Education: Spencer High School and Northwestern College

Family: Shannon, Cassie, Mike and Ken

Position at ELC: Title I/Stem 3-4

What do you like best about working with students?

What I like best about working with students is the relationships that you build with them and the progress you get to see them make throughout the year.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

What I like most about Estherville so far is the friendly people and their willingness to help you in any situation.

Veronica Cooper

Hometown: Melcher

Education: Simpson College Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Simpson College; Associate of Arts degree from Indian Hills

Position at ELC: Middle school band

What do you like best about working with students?

I love being able to help them learn and grow. It is amazing to see them progress through their education and develop their skills.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

I like Estherville being a small town. I grew up in a small town. It is very nice coming back to a small town.

Will Dible

Hometown: Okoboji

Education: BA and MA in secondary science education from the University of Iowa

Family: Wife Jenna Dible

Position at ELC: Eighth grade science

What do you like best about working with students?

I love it when a student comes to me and says, "Mr. Dible, I finally get it! It's not that hard."

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

The other staff members are extremely helpful and already fun to work with.

Tammy Flynn

Hometown: Pocahontas 42 years now living in Spirit Lake

Education: BA from Buena Vista, master's degree from Drake

Family: Husband Tom Flynn; son Todd Flynn, two grandson Brandon and Dillon Flynn.

Position at ELC: Elementary Guidance Counselor.

What do you like best about working with students?

I so enjoy being with young people. I get my energy from them. As a counselor, I'll get to help them work through their problems

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

Since my retirement from Pocahontas Area Community School, I have substituted in the ELC Middle School and Elementary. Two years ago I was the middle school counselor for a year and now this year I'm the elementary counselor. I love the Estherville system. The staff and teachers are so friendly and helpful. I love shopping in Estherville.

Sonja Gjerde

Hometown: Wallingford

Education: Elementary Education degree from Buena Vista University

Family: Husband Eric, Mya - eighth grade at ELC, Carson Gjerde - 11th grade at ELC

Position at ELC: First grade teacher

What do you like best about working with students?

Establishing a relationship with the students and families and watching them grow."

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

I've lived in the community for 19 years. Through this time, the school district has had strong support from the community and businesses. Our family enjoys being involved and will continue.

Amber Jordan

Hometown: Alton, Ill.

Education: Buena Vista University

Family: Jonathan Jordan

Position at ELC: Eighth grade special education

What do you like best about working with students?

Working with students has always been my dream. The biggest thing I enjoy the most is being able to see them grow-both academically and socially.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

So far everyone has been very nice and have welcomed me.

Alan Kies

Hometown: Spirit Lake

Education: Iowa State University Bachelor of Science in history

Family: Parents Dennis and Diane Kies

Position at ELC: High school social studies

What do you like best about working with students?

Everyday is exciting and challenging. All of the different personalities make working with the students fun.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

I have enjoyed everything thus far. The facilities and the staff are second to none. I am looking forward to a great school year.

Megan Miller

Hometown: Lawler

Education: Upper Iowa University, Fayette elementary education Bachelor of Arts in education

Family: Kelly Miller husband; parents Peg and Mark Mueterthies and siblings Michael and Matthew Mueterthies

Position at ELC: Kindergarten teacher

What do you like best about working with students?

I love working with students and helping them learn. I love seeing them take pride in their work and the surprise to know that they can and are learning. I also love to help them grow.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

I love the small town community. There are a lot of things to do. Everyone is so warm and welcoming. It has help make our transition to Estherville go smoothly.

Tiffany Miller

Hometown: Waverly

Education: Wartburg College Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education with reading endorsement; Morningside College ELL endorsement

Family: Husband Luke; sons Max and Ian

Position at ELC: first grade teacher

What do you like best about working with students?

I love their energy and love when students connect and grow in their learning.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

The school staff has been very friendly and helpful.

Arielle Olson

Hometown: Clarion

Education: Bachelor of Science from Iowa State University

Family: Parents Gary and Deb, sister Amber and brother Alex

Position at ELC: Kindergarten teacher

What do you like best about working with students?

What I like best about working with students is seeing them excited about learning and their motivation to complete a task.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

What I like about Estherville so far is how friendly everyone in the community is.

Emily Sexton

Hometown: Spencer, but live in Armstrong now

Education: Augustana College major in elementary education and special education

Family: Brent Sexton husband

Position at ELC: K-2 special education teacher

What do you like best about working with students?

I love seeing the progress my students make both academically and socially.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

Armstrong is good-lived there two days. Not familiar with Estherville yet.

Tyler Shipley

Hometown: State Center

Education: Bachelor's in physical education, health and coaching

Family: Parents David and Bev Shipley, brother Jake and sister McKenzie

Position at ELC: Middle school physical education and varsity boys' basketball

What do you like best about working with students?

Having fun playing games while teaching healthy life skills.

What do you like about Estherville thus far?

All the friendly people.

Angela White

Hometown: Des Moines

Education: English with secondary certification at Buena Vista University

Family: Spouse Jason L. White, Matthew 8, and Breanna 5

Position at ELC: high school language arts

What do you like best about working with students?

Realizing their potential and connecting with students!

What do you like about Estherville thus far?
