Thumbs up to David and Carol Solberg on their induction into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame at this year's Iowa State Fair. This is an honor bestowed upon just one family in each county every year, making it a remarkable accomplishment. We should also honor previous recipients, including:

n 2013 - Holle Smith.

n 2012 - Layne Anderson.

n 2011 - David and Robin Enerson.

n 2010 - Diane Nelsen.

n 2009 - Ron and Sandy Kropf.

n 2008 - Keith and Nancy Rosburg.

n 2007 - Belva Henricksen.

n 2006 - Rachel Holl.

n 2005 - Earl (Bud) Neppl.

n 2004 - Lawrence Thomsen.

n 2003 - Bruce Chrestiansen.

n 2002 - Colleen Enerson.

Thumbs up to the Armstrong City Council for moving ahead and approving its wastewater improvement plan. This is a big step for a town of any size, and the council is showing true leadership by taking this step now - before they're forced to by someone else.

Thumbs up to Samuel Marder for his inspiring message on The Holocaust to high-school and college-age students Wednesday at Iowa Lakes Community College. Marder's message was particularly important because, rather than focusing on his own life, he showed how prejudice continues with us today. It is a message we all should heed.

Thumbs up to Stephanie Mendez, European director of Men Against the Trafficking of Others, for her message of faith and hope at Trinity Lutheran Church Wednesday night. Mendez is a truly courageous person who is not afraid to attack prostitution which has enslaved women since humanity began.
