Thumbs up to all the volunteers who helped with the living exhibits at last Saturday's Pioneer Day at Peterson Point. It was one of the better-attended Pioneer Days in a number of years, and everyone had a great time.

Thumbs up to the Excel! Estherville Arts & Culture Committee and all the performers for making another great Gospel on the Square last Saturday. The event was dedicated to Dee McDonald who was a mainstay to the event from its inception. Dee's contribution to Estherville and the region will be felt for a long time to come.

Thumbs up to everyone who contributed to the new LED sign in front of

Estherville High School. Contributors include ELC Foundation, ELC, NorthStar Bank, Avera Holy Family Hospital, ELC Athletic Boosters and Excel! Estherville.

Thumbs up to North Union Students on a great homecoming week. They conducted themselves in a very appropriate manner and still had a lot of fun.

Thumbs up to the City of Estherville for doing a beautiful job of maintaining Library Square through the summer and on into the fall. It's a showplace of which any community would be proud and shows the huge pride Estherville has along with a great sense of community.

Thumbs up to Mother Nature for providing some unseasonly mild weather lately. It's like June in September. Everyone is out and about and enjoying the outdoors.

Thumbs up to the teachers at Estherville Lincoln Central Middle School for taking students to Thoreson Park this coming Monday to launch rockets. It's a great way for kids to get out and enjoy the outdoors and have some real fun.

Thumbs up to choreographer Dustin Phillips for coming to Estherville and lending his expertise to local dancers this past weekend. Area residents will have to keep an eye out for the hip hop routnes later this year.

Thumbs up to Amy Daws on her new book, "A Broken Us." The Estherville native plans a book signing next weekend from 4-6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4 at Woody's Pizza.

Thumbs up to the Estherville Kiwanis Club on wrapping up its 75th anniversary celebration last weekend at Woody's Pizza.
