Know your candidates

October 17, 2014
Estherville News

Emmet County residents will have some good chances to know their candidates over the next week.

A Meet the Candidates open forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Iowa Lakes Community College auditorium on the Estherville campus. The forum will present a series of questions over a two-hour period to the candidates for Emmet County supervisor. Forum sponsors are KILR radio and the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Running for two supervisor seats this year are:

n Incumbent supervisor Ron Smith, Democratic party.

n John Wittneben, Democratic party.

n John Pluth, Republican party.

n Melanie Summers Bauler, Republican party.

n Ron Beaver.

n Jeff Quastad.

The Estherville News will publish its 2014 Voter Guide Saturday, Oct. 25. This guide will include candidate profiles and their answers to key questions that impact Emmet County voters.

This is an important election, both locally and nationally. We hope everyone gives full and reasonable consideration to all candidates before casting their ballots. Rather than voting for a candidate based on any single issue, look at the candidate's positions on all issues as well as the candidate's experience.

Beyond that, we urge everyone to read as much as possible about the candidates. Don't base your vote on the flyers stuffing your mailbox. Dig deeper.

An informed electorate is an empowered electorate.

So be informed.

And be empowered.
