Estherville News

Thumbs up to the Emmet County Nature Center and naturalist Jenna Pollock for two great events over the past week - the fall leaf paddle last Saturday and the Creatures of the Night Hike on Tuesday. These are wonderful events that are both educational and entertaining and they help highlight the great outdoor activities we have here in Emmet County.

Thumbs up to everyone who attended the Estherville Good Samaritan Society benefit dinner last Saturday at the Estherville Elks Lodge. The event was well attended and the entertainment by Daniel Christian was great.

Thumbs up to the Emmet County Sexual Assault Response Team on a great training session Monday at Cross Roads Community Church. The training offered essential information on investigating sexual assault which involves a delicate balance between compassion for victims and getting the necessary evidence. A big thumbs up has to also go to Cross Roads Community Church for offering a great venue for the training.

Thumbs up to the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce on an extremely well attended annual meeting Tuesday. A huge thumbs up also has to go to the volunteers who helped with scraping and painting the exterior window trim and removing wallpaper and flooring for the interior remodeling.

The result is a beautiful Chamber building that's a credit to Estherville.

Thumbs up to Jean Hoffman and Doug Lietz, president and vice president respectively, of the newly formed Estherville Area Retired School Personnel Association. Membership is open to anyone retired from the educational profession. It's a great resource for those wanting to work on issues impacting educational retirees. The association meets at 3 p.m. the second Thursday of the month in the Estherville Public Library community room. The next meeting will be Nov. 13. There are no meetings in December, January, March, June and July.

Thumbs up to Sue Truog, this year's Estherville Lincoln Central School Foundation Champion in Education. Sue will be honored at Estherville Golf Course 6:30 p.m. tonight.

Thumbs up to Lee Christensen for winning the individual Lakes Conference Cross Country title on Tuesday. Also thumbs up to Nic Peters and Karley Hanson for earning all-conference honors.
