McDonald benefit Friday, Nov. 21

November 14, 2014
Estherville News

A benefit will be held to help pay the final expenses of the late Dee McDonald whose untimely passing this past July 5 shook the local community.

Dee, taken far too young in life, was the dedicated activities director at Rosewood Manor. To most people in Estherville, she was Rosewood Manor. In fact, whenever people thought of Rosewood, they thought of Dee. She went out of her way to involve residents in activities and to give Rosewood a reputation for warmth and caring.

The benefit will be held from 7-11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 in the Powerantz Hall at Pearson Lakes Art Center on 2201 Highway 71 in Okoboji. Dee's remarkably talented daughter Ashley is coming from Redding, Calif. to perform for the benefit. Ashley rapidly built up a solid following in just a few months in the Lakes area this past spring and summer and returned to California shortly before Dee's passing. Ashley's unique blend of folk, popular and spiritual music and her personable stage presence has consistently drawn a growing and wide-ranging audience.

Joining Ashly onstage will be another Estherville area artist, Alan Morphew, who ran a Los Angeles recording studio in Los Angeles and worked with many major groups in addition to producing his own albums.

Also joining McDonald are her uncle John Rapp and brother Ian. A freewill donation will be accepted.

We encourage everyone to attend this event. It's a wonderful way to repay the many things Dee did for our community - from giving far more of herself than anyone could have expected in her duties as Rosewood activities director to volunteering her time and talents as a musician for events in Estherville and the surrounding area to warming the lives of those around her with her compassion and caring.

Dee had five family members with whom she shared her life, but amazingly, we all thought of her as family.
