Estherville News

Thumbs up to the Emmet County Historical Society on a great annual meeting Friday, Nov. 7 at the Estherville VFW. Viola West and Mary Gray put on a fascinating program about family cemeteries in Emmet County.

Thumbs up to Sarah Uthoff for a great program on Laura Ingalls Wilder last Saturday at the Estherville Public Library community room. What was really wonderful was to see people from several generations listening intently to Uthoff's program. That really shows the timeless appeal of Wilder's books.

Thumbs up to Jeff Quastad who was sworn in as a new Emmet County supervisor Monday. His popularity around the county is a testament to how well he'll represent the interests of the people.

Thumbs up to North Union and Estherville Lincoln Central schools and their students for taking part in Veterans Day programs. Patriotism and love of country is alive and well in Emmet County, and that's something of which we should all be proud.

Thumbs up to Erin Guge of Camden Photography. The Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors welcomed Erin Wednesday to her studio just behind 504 Central Ave. To schedule an appointment, call 515-321-7947.

Thumbs up to H&R Block which sponsored Business After Five Wednesday night. The timing was pretty good, considering that tax time is right around the corner.

Thumbs up to Woody's Charities which is holding its annual fundraiser 8-10:30 Saturday night. This is a wonderful organization that helps people afflicted with debilitating illnesses in Emmet and Dickinson counties.

Thumbs up to all the businesses and Chamber members who are making plans for the Chocolate Walk 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20 followed by the Parade of Lights at 7. As always, we want to remind everyone to shop first in Estherville where you'll find lots of great deals, friendly service and many happy returns if you're not happy with your purchase.

Thumbs up to Ashley McDonald who's coming back to Iowa for two concerts next week - 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Little Swan Lake Winery and 7-11 p.m. Friday at Pearson Lakes Art Center.
