Shop locally this holiday season

November 28, 2014
Estherville News

Black Friday may be just past us, but there's still plenty of time for Christmas shopping. And the best thing you can do for yourself and your community is to shop locally.

In Estherville, we're blessed with great stores that offer great values. Whether it's electronics, tools, kitchen items or toys, you'll find it right here, and for about the same price as what you'd pay anywhere else.

And, while gas may be the lowest that it's been in years, it does still take money - and probably more importantly, time - to get in the car and make that hundred-mile trip where you may or may not find what you're looking for.

By shopping at home, you save lots of time by not having to run around looking for things. There's plenty of parking, too.

And if there's something wrong with what you buy, you don't have to drive miles and miles to exchange it, and there are no questions asked. You certainly can't say that about all the big box stores in another state.

And by buying local, you're helping to pay the salaries of local employees - your friends, neighbors and quite possibly, even a family member. A rule of thumb is that every dollar spent locally turns around seven times. So if you spend $100 shopping here at home, you've improved the economy by $700.

By shopping locally, you're also paying local sales and service taxes that go directly to helping build local schools and to support Excel Estherville which has had a dramatic impact on Estherville over the past few years.

So we urge you to shop locally - not just during the holiday season but throughout the year. Support the community that's here for you - 365 days a year, rain or shine.
