January 9, 2015
by Britney Rosburg - ISU Extension Program Educator , Estherville News

It's hard to believe a new year is upon us. I hope you all enjoyed the Holiday season and are looking forward to see what 2015 will bring. I am excited to share some upcoming events that will be offered through ISU Extension and Outreach

The time is drawing near when open enrollment for 2015 health insurance coverage will end. Smart Choice: Health Insurance is a workshop that was designed to inform individuals of the steps to follow when they are making a choice between several different policies or providers.

Iowa State University Human Sciences Extension & Outreach, is offering the workshop online on January 19, 2015, 6-8 pm. To register for the free program go to:

Understanding health insurance can be challenging, especially now with the changes that have been put in place by the Affordable Care Act. The goal of the Smart Choice: Health Insurance class is to answer questions and help consumers be better prepared to compare different plans by understanding insurance terms and options to make a choice that fits their individual needs. The class has been approved for Iowa Child Care Professional Development Credit.

Farm women have always been an integral part of any farm operation. But the numbers show that the role of women in farming continues to grow in Iowa. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Emmet and Palo Alto have organized a program for women in agriculture to learn how to handle issues that come up in farming operations. The event "Real Colors, Real Issues for Women in Agriculture" will be held on Monday, January 12 from 6pm to 8 pm at Energy Panel Structures 603 North Van Gordon, Graettinger.

This event will be an opportunity for participants to network with other women while learning how to handle issues and stressors that occur in agriculture.

The fee for this program is $15 per participant which includes a meal and educational materials. Participants are encouraged to register by January 5th by calling the Emmet County Office at (712) 362-3434 or by emailing me at The fees for service will be used to off-set direct expenses and to support the Agriculture and Natural Resources County Extension Program.

Wishing you a Happy New Year!
