Kinship a great success

February 6, 2015
Estherville News

Thanks to the unflagging dedication of Melony Renze, coordinator of YMCA Kinship, which includes the former Kinship of both Emmet and Dickinson counties, Kinship now has a total of 45 matches - 26 in Emmet County and 19 in Dickinson County. In these matches, caring adults are mentoring youth, helping guide them as they make critical decisions about their future.

The YMCA Kinship Committee recently received the sad news that Renze is leaving as director after having served for three years. She and her husband, Curt, are relocating from Estherville to Auburn, Ala. where he's taking a position with GKN Aerospace.

Renze more than doubled the number of Kinship matches from the time she took her position. Beyond that, she has served as a mentor herself. She has truly demonstrated that her position has not been a job but a passion.

Fortunately, there is a slate of excellent candidates who have applied for the position which has gained in stature for a number of reasons. One would be the total commitment that Andrew Fisher, Bedell Family YMCA Program Operations Director, and Norm Johnson, YMCA of the Okobojis CEO, have made to the Kinship program. Another reason is the professionalism that Renze has shown.

Whenever someone asks whatever happened to Kinship of Emmet County, the answer is that it has joined forces with YMCA of the Okobojis to become even stronger. Kinship youth in Emmet County now have far more activities in which they can engage, including the facilities at Bedell Family YMCA and Camp Foster.

We urge you to support both YMCA Kinship and YMCA of the Okobojis as they strive to serve the youth and adults of our area.

We also urge anyone who is interested to consider becoming a Kinship mentor. The personal rewards are great, and last a lifetime. For more information on how to be a part of the Kinship program, please contact Andrew Fisher at (712)336-9622 or at andrew.fisher@okobojiymca.com.
