Thumbs up, thumbs down

Estherville News

Thumbs up to everyone who turned out for the 10th anniversary observance of the commissioning of the Iowa Lakes Community College wind turbine at the Sustainable Energy Resources and Technologies Center Monday. This was a great event plus a chance to see just how much progress the college has made since the turbine first began turning 10 years ago.

Thumbs up to the Estherville Lincoln Central Education Association and district officials who exchanged initial proposals Tuesday. An air of cooperation has pervaded negotiations over the past few years as both teachers and the district work toward a common goal - the good of the students.

Thumbs up to the sponsors and the attendees of the North Iowa Agriculture Summit Thursday at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg. The presenters offered some excellent advice to ag producers who in turn had the chance to visit with each other about today's trends in agriculture. Thanks should also go to the sponsors who helped offset the costs for farmers to attend the summit. Those sponsors included: Bank Plus, Farm Credit Services of America, Iowa Lakes

Community College, Iowa State University Extension, Big Iron Online Auctions, Kossuth County Farm Bureau, David Olson State Farm Insurance of

Emmetsburg, Ag Property

Solutions, Emmet County Farm Bureau, Erpelding and Voigt CPAs, Farmers Mutual Insurance Association of Emmetsburg, Gold Eagle Cooperative, POET/DSM Advanced Biofuels, StateLine Cooperative and Tom Eischen Sales Inc. A huge thanks has to go to ISU Extension staff from several counties who went the extra mile to make the summit run smoothly.

Thumbs up to Dave Rowley for entertaining Estherville Good Samaritan Society residents Thursday. It's wonderful to see people come visit and perform for the residents.

Thumbs up to the six area wrestlers who qualified for the 2015 State Individual Tournament-Estherville Lincoln Central's Zack Snyder and Kelly Clabaugh; Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire's Kolton Roth, Tyler Hoffman and Cody Thompson and Spirit Lake Park's Adam Skopec. Making it to the state tournament is always a milestone accomplishment.

Thumbs up to the firefighters who responded quickly to an E-85 gas spill on Friday. Their willingness to serve the community is appreciated.
