Local fairs help people find jobs and the road to health

March 13, 2015
Estherville News

If you were looking for a fair this past week, you were in luck.

An it wasn't even the end of July.

On Wednesday, Iowa Lakes Community College hosted a job fair at The Max and the Sustainable Energy Resources and Technology center in Estherville. Students and community members both had the chance to see what jobs are out there and what skills they need to get them.

And this was a great venue for a job fair. We're in a great place here in Estherville where people can either brush up on their skills or attend college full-time - all for a lot less money that it would cost elsewhere.

There was also a lot of information available at the Health Expo, also Wednesday, at the Regional Wellness Center. People had the chance to learn about programs that can help get and keep them healthy.

Some added programs this year were finding the proper shoe, workplace ergonomics and proper lifting techniques, and healthy cooking.

It's amazing that the public can have so much information and so many resources available to them - all in the same day. If you look at similar-sized communities, folks aren't nearly so lucky.

As winter turns to spring, we hope people can take advantage of some of the tips offered at these fairs this week, whether it's building that perfect resume to find that perfect job to getting on a regular workout schedule and developing a healthier lifestyle.

The knowledge has been offered to us. Now it's a matter of doing it.
