Thumbs up, thumbs down

Estherville News

Thumbs up to Steven Michael on his book signing last Saturday at the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce. Michael's was the third in a series of author signings sponsored by the Excel Estherville Arts & Culture Committee. The committee is looking for help with Music on the Square and other projects this summer. If you want to be a part of Estherville's vibrant and growing art's scene and would like to volunteer with the committee, call the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce at 362-3541.

Thumbs up to the Friends of Fort Defiance for sprucing up around the lodge and doing other park projects Thursday night. The lodge is available for rent for high-school graduations, weddings and family reunions at a very reasonable price - $37.50 on weekdays and $75 on weekends. To make a reservation, call the Gull Point ranger station at 712-337-3211.

Thumbs up to LeeAnn Egel and Kathryn Holmgren, recipients of this year's Administrative Professional of the Year award from the Estherville Rotary Club. Kathryn has faithfully served Pelzer Law Firm for 54 years while LeeAnn has been with the Estherville News for three years. These women are key to making their businesses work, and their contributions are invaluable.

A huge thumbs up also has to go to the Estherville Rotary for recognizing the administrative professionals in our community.

Thumbs up to the sponsors and chaperones for this year's proms at Estherville Lincoln Central and North Union High School. It isn't easy putting on a prom, and the contributions these businesses and people make are indeed appreciated by the prom couples.

A huge thumbs up also has to go to their fellow high-school students and prom attendants for making the proms memorable. We would also like to thank our prom couples - in advance - for enjoying an alcohol-free prom night. Prom night has the potential for a lifetime of memories, and by staying away from alcohol, young people can make sure those memories are good ones.

Thumbs up to the Northwest Iowa Concert and Jazz bands for their performance at a spring concert on Monday. The all-volunteer groups again put on a show for those in attendance.
