Class 2A State Golf - ELC places seventh at state

Brashear leads Midgets with 166

AMES - Estherville Lincoln Central finished seventh at the Class 2A State Golf Tournament this past Friday and Saturday.

The Midgets finished seventh after day one and did not move up or down in the second day as they finished with a two-day total of 680.

Playing at the Ames Golf and Country Club, Hunter King had a strong start with a first-day score of 79, but didn't fare as well in the second day as he shot a 92 for a 171 total.

Jack Brashear fired a consistent 83 each day to finish with a 166. Trey Jacobson shot an 86 the first day and dropped a stroke the second day as he finished with a 171. Hunter Wheatley carded an 88 in the first day and came back with an 85 the second day to finish with a 173.

Also, Jacob Bosch shot a 97 on the first day and a 91 the second to finish with a 188. Collin Wodtke shot a 107 on the first day and a 103 the second to finish with a 210.

With Brashear and King both juniors and the remainder of the varsity squad all freshmen, ELC will have a opportunity to try to return to the state tournament next year and beyond.

ELC is coached by Dave Van Roekel.

Panora won the 2A tournament with a 616 followed by Kuemper Catholic with 633, south Winneshiek with 645, Fort Dodge St. Edmond with 648, Waterloo Columbus with 653, Des Moines Christian with 654, ELC with 680, Durant with 687 and Jesup with 691.
