Through the good times and bad times

Estherville News

Throughout the last week, Estherville has shown what it means to be a community, through times of celebration and through times of grief.

Emmet County Relay for Life cancer survivors and supporters gathered this last weekend to celebrate and honor those who have battled cancer. It is during this event that the Estherville community came together to raise $103,824.43, surpassing its goal of $89,000. This would not have been possible without the unrelenting support and work of so many dedicated community members.

This last weekend, Estherville also lost a young man who had been raised and surrounded with love by many in the community. During Saturday's evening hours, hundreds of area residents, some of which who did not know the man personally, came together to search for him. Through the late night, early Sunday morning and evening, volunteers searched the fields, parks and roads for Thomas Borvit. Along with that, many more posted their prayers and love for the man and his family on Facebook.

In trying times, the true capabilities of a community become visible. The love, support and dedication so many Estherville and area residents have for each other and the community is a valuable and beautiful thing that cannot be found just anywhere.

While emotions run high this week for the community of Estherville, be sure to turn toward each other for a shoulder to lean on, a friend to talk to and the support and love needed to get through times such as these.
