Growing together

June 21, 2015
Estherville News

Recently, Estherville and Emmet County moved forward with a plan to boost economic development efforts. This is great way to show off as well as build upon the great qualities and opportunities Estherville and the county has to offer.

This is yet another example of community residents and workers stepping up as leaders and recognizing the importance of creating a sustainable and viable community for future generations.

Economic development is critical is providing new opportunities and bringing new residents to the area. As seen in many small Iowa towns, without growth and progress, the town begins to deteriorate and fade. Younger generations leave to find newer and bigger opportunities and businesses close due to lack of available work force and decrease in profits.

However, thanks to many of the residents' love and dedication to Estherville and Emmet County, the area is consistently looking for ways to improve and grow such as with the new facades of many downtown Estherville buildings, the use of the Rural Community Development Initiative grant to revitalize the surrounding small towns, Home Base Iowa and Excel! Estherville's Dream It. Pitch It. Win It Contest.

The benefits of promoting economic development are endless. It creates jobs, attracts and sustains business growth, it helps create links between rural and urban areas and it creates and helps satisfy a common need for commerce among residents and businesses.

It is this go-getter attitude that makes Estherville and Emmet County such a fun place to live and work.
