SPENCER - Estherville Lincoln Central's hitters stepped up against Spencer on Tuesday defeating the Tigers 3-1 in Lakes Conference play.

"We hit the ball better than we have and spread it over several hitters, which made us more difficult to defend," said ELC co-coach Jean Jensen. "We had 46 kills with only five errors, so we had good efficiency."

ELC jumped out to a 26-15 win in the first game with Spencer battling back to take the second game 27-25.

"It was just a solid game by both teams and Spencer hit the ball well," said Jensen.

ELC came back to win the third game 25-20 and dominated the fourth game 25-13.

"That last game was good to see, because sometimes we get tired," said Jensen.

Molly Diekmann led the ELC attack with 12 kills while Vanessa Woelber had nine, Rachel Lambert and Rylee Miller each had eight and Lindsey Jensen had six. Kendall Evans finished with 40 set assists.

Evans also led the serving as she went 26-of-26 with three aces while Miller was 15-of-15 with four aces.

Defensively, Jensen finished with 37 digs and Diekmann and Woelber each had 32.

ELC (7-9 overall, 2-3 in conference play) hosts its tournament this Saturday.

In junior varsity play against Spencer, ELC won 25-23, 25-21 and the ELC freshman won 25-14, 25-9.
