GT/RA 58, CC-E 29 Titans cruise past Mavericks

ROYAL - Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire took care of business with a 58-29 victory over Clay Central-Everly on Friday.

The Titans can now look ahead to this week's district game against district leader Harris-Lake Park (7-0,5-0) , which defeated Newell-Fonda (5-2, 4-1), 33-27, in a battle of district leaders.

GT/RA (6-1 overall, 4-1 in district play) will need to beat the Wolves for a chance to advance to the playoffs this season.

Jacob Conlon had a good night, rushing for four touchdowns and passing for two.

GT/RA got off to a fast start against an improved Clay Central-Everly team as Kolton Roth returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for the score. However, the Titans failed on the two-point conversion.

The Mavericks came back with a 50-yard pass play and added the two-point conversion just 13 seconds later as they took an 8-6 lead.

GT/RA quarter Jacob Conlon didn't let that stand as he scored the next three touchdowns-a 51-yard run with 4:23 left in the first quarter, a 1-yard run at the 10:51 mark of the second quarter and a 6-yard run with 4:33 left in the half. Roth added the two-point conversions after the first two Conlon scores, but the Titans failed on the third for a 28-8 lead.

Clay Central-Everly fought back with a 40-yard fake punt and pass and added the two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 28-16.

However, Conlon connected with Jordan Thompson on a 25-yard strike with 9 seconds left in the half with Roth running in the two-point conversion for a 36-16 half-time lead.

The Titans picked up where they left off in the third quarter with Roth opening with a 60-yard run and two-point conversion. Conlon then connected with Roth on a 38-yard strike with Roth running in the two-point conversion for a 52-16 lead.

The Mavericks came in with a 7-yard touchdown pass, but railed on the two-point conversion.

Conlon added one more score for the Titans with a 3-yard touchdown run with 1:40 left in the third quarter for a 58-22 advantage.

CCE scored the lone touchdown with 3:39 left in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard pass and kicked the extra point for the final tally.

Conlon finished with 123 yards on the ground on 16 carries. Roth had 175 yards on 21 carries while Spencer Roth had four carries for 17 yards, Lucas Hoffman had two carries for 10 yards and Chris Conlon had three carries for 7 yards.

Through the air, Jacob Conlon was 6-of-13 for 127 yards and no interceptions. Roth caught three passes for 76 yards, Thompson caught just the 25-yard touchdown pass and Chris Conlon had two catches for 26 yards.

Defensively, Chris Conlon and Kolton Roth each recovered a fumble.

Kolton Roth led the defense with 8.5 tackles while Chris Conlon had 6.5 and Sam Skattebo had six tackles including a solo sack.
