FORT DODGE - North Union notched its second straight victory with a 22-12 win over St. Edmond of Fort Dodge on Friday.

Senior Trent Pedersen rushed for 89 yards and two scores for the second week in a row. Pedersen, who had carried the ball for North Union previous years, had moved up to the line early in this season. However, coach Matt Ernster moved up a new player to the front line and returned Pedersen to the backfield last week in the 26-14 win over Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union.

In Friday's game against the Gaels, North Union scored first when Hunter Pierce fell on a St. Edmond fumble in the end zone.

Pedersen scored his first touchdown with 59 seconds left in the half on a 1-yard run. The Warriors completed the two-point conversion to lead 14-0.

St. Edmond answered with a 16-yard pass touchdown pass and the score at half was 14-6.

After a scoreless third quarter, Pedersen scored on a 19-yard run in the fourth quarter. The Warriors added the two-point conversion to lead 22-6.

The Gaels scored on a 7-yard pass with 1:41 left in the game, but couldn't make the two-point conversion, allowing the Warriors to keep a two score lead.

North Union then sealed the victory by recovering the ensuing onside kick.

Unofficially, Pedersen finished with 89 yards on 27 carries. Isaac Engeman had 94 yards on 23 carries. Also, Evan Hagebock was 5-for-8 passing for 26 yards. Robert Ortman caught three passes for 18 yards, Engeman caught one pass for 5 yards and Pedersen caught one pass for 3 yards.

Eythan Blair led the Warrior defense with 9.5 tackles while Engeman had nine and Pedersen and Andrew Schiltz each had seven.

North Union (3-4 overall, 2-3 in district play) is on the road again this Friday against South O'Brien.
