LE MARS - Estherville Lincoln Central freshman Taylor Myers stepped up at the Lakes Conference Cross Country Meet with his first Top 10 finish as he placed sixth to earn all-conference honors on Tuesday.

Myers finished the race in 17 minutes, 35.47 seconds.

"I was happy to see Taylor pull off Lakes All-Conference honors," said ELC coach Tina Burton. "I knew he was capable of being top 14, what I didn't know was whether he would race smart or scared. He really did race smart. He started off in top 10 and then just ran his race. I couldn't be prouder of him."

Senior Kevin Dong just missed the cut for all-conference as he placed 15th in 17:59.85-less than 3 seconds away from 14th place.

"Kevin ran an equally tough race," said Burton. " I did expect him to be top 14 and would have loved to have seen him there. He traditionally has started too hard but this time he didn't start hard enough and he couldn't seem to get his legs to wake up. As a senior he had goals of being All Conference so I am just as bummed for him as he is for not achieving his goals. We have already discussed race strategy going in to next week for the state qualifying meet."

As a team, ELC finished fifth with 130 points.

Riley Theesfeld stepped up to placed 33rd in 19:20.15 while Jacob Jensen placed 37th in 19:38.57 and Drew Condon placed 39th in 19:49.22.

"Another mention should go out to Jacob Jensen," said Burton. "He shared with me his goals for the meet. Sometimes it can't be about winning or being all conference but it should be about setting and achieving goals. Jacob did just that and had a personal record as well. I get just as excited watching them get excited about meeting their goals."

Also running varsity for ELC, Ethan Traff placed 48th in 20:18.15 and Marcus Smith placed 53rd in 20:45.22.

ELC travels to the Class 2A state fualifying meet hosted by United Christian at the Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City next Thursday, Oct. 20.

In the junior varsity boys' race, Jose Saavedra placed 39th in 21:26.45, Chaz Berge placed 66th in 23:22.64 and Toby Jensen placed 75th in 24:37.63.
