While Estherville Lincoln Central avoided the sweep, rival Spirit Lake just had too much firepower in the final Lakes Conference matchup for both teams on Tuesday, as the Indians won 3-1.

Spirit Lake opened the night with a 25-14 win.

In game two, ELC led 7-5 early, but the Indians went on a run to take a 14-10 lead. However, Spirit Lake made too many errors to put ELC away. A kill by Molly Diekmann had the deficit to one at 22-21. Consecutive hitting errors by Spirit Lake gave ELC the lead. After an ELC hitting error tied the game at 23-23, the Midgets scored the next two points, punctuated by a kill from Rylee Miller on game point.

In game three, Spirit Lake looked to dominate, jumping out to an 8-2 lead. But ELC kept battling, getting the lead within one before tying the match at 17-17 and again at 19-19. But the Indians made more plays to pull out the 25-23 victory.

Spirit Lake did dominate the last game after opening open with a 10-2 lead. ELC rallied back with the next six points, which included a pair of ace serves from Molly Diekmann. But the Indians rattled off the next five points, as ELC was never able to close the gap. Spirit Lake led by as many as 10, 23-13, before closing out the 25-17 victory.

Spirit Lake's attack came from Grace Grommesh and Macy Smith, who each had 16 kills.

Molly Diekmann led ELC's attack with 10 kills while Rylee Miller had six and Lindsey Jensen had three. Kendall Evans had 16 set assists.

Serving, Diekmann finished 15-of-16 with two aces while Kendall Evans was 13-of-14 with three aces. ELC had eight aces total.

Jensen led the back-row defense with 35 digs while Sydney Swanson finished with 20.

ELC (16-12 overall, 3-4 in the Lakes Conference) travels to the Storm Lake Tournament this weekend to wrap up the regular season.
