STORM LAKE - Estherville Lincoln Central netters finished second for the second tournament in a row at the Storm Lake Tournament on Saturday.

ELC opened the day with a 21-16, 21-18 loss to Spirit Lake and then defeated Emmetsburg 21-18, 21-12, then beat Storm Lake 21-9, 21-10 and Cherokee 21-9, 21-17.

"Saturday was a very fun day," said ELC co-coach Jean Jensen. "All the girls were very positive. One of our goals was to beat Cherokee, who taken a game from us earlier this season and we did that. These girls all have a great work ethic and it is really paying off. I'm very proud of all of them."

In the championship game, ELC faced Spirit Lake again and lost 25-23, 25-15.

"I thought we had them in the first game and then in the second game we faltered," said coach Jensen.

Molly Diekmann led the attack on the day with 25 kills while Lindsey Jensen and 18 and Vanessa Woelber had 16. Kendall Evans had 72 set assists.

Defensively, Jensen had 58 digs and Woelber had 50.

Serving, Kendall Evans was 45-of-47 with 11 aces. Jensen was 34-f-38 with five aces.

"I really can't say enough about Kendall's serving," said coach Jensen. "She is one of the best servers in our conference and makes it really hard for the other team to serve receive, which in return makes it hard for them to set up an offense."

ELC (19-14 overall) and Spirit Lake will meet again at 7 p.m., Wednesday in Spirit Lake in the first round of Class 3A regional play.
