Lakers split first games of 2016

MOBERLY, Mo. - The Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball Team opened its season by splitting its first two games at the Moberly Classic this past weekend.

On Friday, the Lakers started with an 82-70 win over NJCAA Division 1 school Southwestern Illinois Community College.

On Saturday, the Lakers fell 104-72 to host Moberly, another Division 1 school that is ranked 11th in the NJCAA preseason rankings.

Against Southwestern Illinois, five Lakers scored in double digits. Kyle Beisch led the way with 18 points. Mitch Keller chipped in with his first double-double of the year scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Tywon Bressler added 15 points, Cody Cox had 12, and Lamontae Lewis had 11.

On Saturday, Nakelle Martin led the Lakers with 17 points.

Iowa Lakes (1-1 overall) will host the Dordt Junior Varsity at 7:30 p.m., today in the Laker Gymnasium in Estherville.
