Seven ELC players earn first team honors; three others receive honorable mention

While Estherville Lincoln Central had just seven seniors on the 2016 gridiron squad, their importance is noted in the all-district honors as six received recognition for their efforts this season.

The well is far from dry for the Midgets though as ELC also had three juniors and a sophomore earn recognition.

Name to the first team all-district offense for ELC were junior quarterback Evan Olesen, junior wide receiver Trey Jacobson and senior lineman Giovanni Esteves.

And, while seniors Myles McDonald and Robert Sheridan both helped ELC's ground game on offense, the two were honored for their work on defense as both received all-district honors as linebackers. Senior defensive lineman Derek Gebel and junior linebacker Jacob Bosch also made the first team.

Three more ELC players earned recognition as honorable mention all-district-seniors Clay Budach and Trevor Shryock along with sophomore Bennett Loock.

Looking at the first team offensive selections for the Midgets, Olesen finished with 18,22 yards passing with 15 touchdowns to 13 interceptions. He was 138-of-233 for a completion percentage of 59.2 percent. He also carried the ball 102 times for 439 yards.

Jacobson was hits top receiver with 39 catches for 652 yards and five touchdowns.

Esteves helped create some of the holes for Sheridan and McDonald to run for 622 and 586 yards, respectively.

Sheridan led the ELC defense all season with 79 solo tackles and 59 assists for 108.5 total. Nine were solo tackles for a loss including a solo sack. He also had both an interception and a fumble recovery. Sheridan handled 17 punt returns for 184 yards and also seven kickoffs for 106 yards.

Bosch finished with 55 solo tackles and 40 assists for a total of 75 including seven solo tackles and two solo sacks. He also had an interception

Gebel finished with 44 solo tackles and 31 assists for a total of 59.5 including eight solo tackles and two solo sacks. He also had a fumble recovery. McDonald had 17 solo tackles and 14 assists for a total of 24 tackles with one solo tackle and one sack. McDonald also handled seven kickoff returns for a total of 341 yards with two returns for touchdowns.

Looking at ELC's honorable mention, Budach caught 14 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown and also had two carries for 15 yards. Defensively, he finished with 24 solo tackles and eight assists for a total of 28. He also had an interception and a fumble recovery.

Shryock carried the ball 23 times for 98 yards. Defensively, he was second on the team in tackles with 57 solo tackles and 38 assists for a total of 76 tackles-that included seven solo tackles for loss.

Loock developed into a top-notch receiver as he caught 31 passes for 534 yards and five touchdowns. He also returned three kickoffs for 27 yards.
