Peta posts 5-0 mark; ELC takes fourth at Orab Duals

SHELDON - After having two tournaments canceled prior to the Christmas break, Estherville Lincoln Central finally wrestled in just its second tournament of the year as the Midgets competed at the Sheldon Dual Tournament on Saturday.

Led by Jason Peta's 5-0 day, ELC finished fourth overall by posting a 2-3 record in the six-team tournament.

ELC started the day with a 60-15 win over Sioux Central, then lost 50-24 to Lennox, S.D., then lost 47-24 to Sioux Center and 51-30 to Le Mars, before edging host Sheldon/South O'Brien 37-36 on criteria.

Wrestling two matches at 120 pounds and three at 113, Peta had four pins and a forfeit on the day. Only his match against Sheldon/South O'Brien's Jacob Canales lasted longer than a minute as Peta earned the pin in 3:34.

Four other ELC wrestlers posted a 4-1 record on the day.

At 132 pounds, earned a key 12-9 win against SSO's Gavin Leng. He also had a pin against Le Mars' Jacob Singer and received two forfeits.

Derek Gebel (160) wrestled in a tough bracket as three wrestlers at that weight went 4-1-Chayce Hooyer of Sioux Center and Jared Kessenich of Le Mars were the other two. Gebel had four pins on the day, but lost to Hooyer 6-1. Hooyer lost bay fall to Kessenich while Gebel beat Kessenich by fall.

At 170 pounds, Lincoln Coakley also went 4-1 as he finished with three pins and a forfeit. His one loss was a 17-10 decision to Lennox's Tyler Zebell.

Cole Anderson went 4-1 at heavyweight. He had two pins on the day and a tough 5-2 victory over Lennox's Thomas Fischer. His one loss was by fall to Class 2A top-ranked Elijah Van't Hof of Sioux Center.

Also for ELC, Ethan Crees (145), Kylan Fitzgerald (182) and Nick Egeland (220) all posted 2-3 records while Michael Houge 9106), Tanner Van Wyhe (138), Dale Paulson (152) and Juan Diaz (195) each went 1-4). Chase Budach (126) finished 0-5.

ELC returns to action Tuesday as the Midgets travel to Milford to face Okoboji and Algona in a non-conference double dual.
