Trailing by 18 points early in the third quarter, the Estherville Lincoln Central girls fought back to within two points in the fourth quarter.

However, visiting Jackson County Central made enough shots and free throws to pull out a 48-43 victory.

"I was pleased with our comeback, but in the second and third quarter we didn't play with the energy in order to in," said ELC coach Tony Klein. "We had some chances at the end, but couldn't get over the hump."

Coming off her 30-point performance on Friday, Josie Condon led ELC with 15 points. She had some help in making the comeback as Morgan White finished with 10 points including six during ELC's rally. Katherine Johnson and Lindsey Jensen also each had six points in the second half.

Both teams got off to a slow start.

Three-pointers by Josie Condon and Morgan White had ELC with an early 6-5 lead, but a 3-pointer by JCC's Alaina Wolff gave the visitors an 8-7 lead after one quarter.

Condon scored the first basket of the second quarter, but the Huskies went on a 16-2 run to build a 24-11 advantage.

Condon helped ELC come back with consecutive 3-pointers to pull ELC back within seven at 24-17. However JCC led 27-19 at the break.

JCC started the second quarter with a 12-2 run before ELC began its comeback. ELC's defense shut down the Huskies the rest of the period and scored the final eight points to cut the deficit to 39-29 to start the fourth quarter.

ELC's defense continued to hold in the fourth quarter as ELC went a 10-2 run capped by a layup by Sydney Swanson as ELC got within 41-39.

However the Huskies Wolff immediately answered with a 3-pointer to push the advantage to five. After a layup by Johnson cut the lead to three, 44-41, ELC had other chances to cut into the lead, but couldn't convert.

Also for ELC, Rylee Miller finished with four points and Swanson had two.

ELC (4-7 overall) is home against Newell-Fonda this evening. The Midgets travel to Spencer on Friday.
