Mae Scheffel Feb. 16, 1925 - Jan. 8, 2017

Funeral services for Mae Scheffel, 91, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, formerly of Redfield, S.D, were held on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Henry Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Linn Potter officiating. A visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017 at Henry Olson Funeral Home.

Mae Lucille (McIntyre) Scheffel, the daughter of Archie and Maude (Burke) McIntyre, was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Canton, S.D. She died on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at Keelson Harbour Assisted Living in Spirit Lake.

She graduated from high school in Tulare, S.D. She attended Dakota Wesleyan, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree. She earned her RN at Methodist Hospital in Mitchell, S.D.

She was united in marriage to A.R. Scheffel on May 10, 1945. The couple made their home in Redfield, S.D., where Alvin practiced medicine as a family physician for 45 years. Mae stayed at home to raise their children. She enjoyed sewing and painting as hobbies.

Left to cherish Mae's memory are her daughters, Darial (Steve) Weisman of Spirit Lake; Carol (Todd) St. Sauver of Madison, S.D.; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ardy McIntyre of Redfield, S.D.; Ardis Scheffel of Council Bluffs; Mary Scheffel of Mt. Prospect, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

She has been preceded in death by her parents; her husband A.R. Scheffel, M.D; son, Richard; brother, Ray McIntyre and sister Hazel Radcliff.

Memorials may be made to Pearson Lakes Art Center or your favorite charity in Mae's memory.
