Funeral services for Herbert Jacobsen will be held on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at 10:30 am at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong. Burial will take place immediatly following the service at Armstrong Grove Cemetery witl military rites provided by the Ringsted American Legion. Visitation for Harold will be on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Nazareth Lutheran Church.

Herbert Martin Jacobsen, the son of Martin and Amelia (Christiansen) Jacobsen, was born Oct. 19, 1926, in Ruthven, Iowa. He died Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, at the age of 90.

He graduated from Emmetsburg High School. Following his graduation he served in the United States Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge from military duty he returned to the area and started to farm north of Ringsted.

On June 4, 1948, Herbert was united in marriage to Violet Skovgaard at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ringsted, Iowa. The couple made their home in the Armstrong area where Herbert was engaged in farming his entire life. The couple enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Ariz., at Fountain of the Sun for nearly 40 years. Violet died Sept. 25, 2015.

Herbert was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong and he also belonged to the Ringsted American Legion Post and the Danish Fellowship.

He is survived by his brother Lowell Jacobsen and his wife, Barbara of Graettinger; sister-in-law, Chloe Jacobsen and several nieces and nephews.

He has been preceded in death by his wife; parents; one brother, Delbert Jacobsen; and one sister, Patricia.
