Estherville Lincoln Central volleyball players in fifth grade through 12th grade attended an ice cream team party on Tuesday, March 28 at the high school. The ELC high school coaches hosted the gathering for the winter league girls to congratulate them on their successes this season and reward them for the extra time and effort they put in during this offseason.

"This was a great opportunity for the girls to start building relationships with their ELC volleyball teammates in other grades," said coach Kieja Evans. "It was a lot of fun to see the interactions and hear the conversations between all of the girls. Relationships are a huge part of a teams success, so we felt this was a nice way for them to start viewing themselves as one team right now."

Participants in grades 5-8 participated in the Winter League Volleyball program hosted by area schools on Sunday afternoons. They had the opportunity to play all the teams in their age bracket multiple times with the final playing date being tournament style.

"This year our participation numbers were very high with 48 girls in the league," said Evans. "These are the highest numbers ELC has ever had in winter league. We have a lot of great youth here at Estherville Lincoln Central that are excited to play volleyball, so we are loving that."

The high school girls registered with USAV as a club team, ELC Extreme. These nine girls attended club sanctioned tournaments in SD and MN and had the opportunity to play some very tough nationally ranked teams.

"The extra time these girls have spent with their club training in the gym and at these tournaments will really pay off going into next season," said coach Jean Jensen. "The girls played some great competition and have gained a lot of skill development over the winter."
