Lakers unable to steal game from Southeastern

BURLINGTON - The Iowa Lakes Baseball Team had a tough weekend as host Southeastern won all four games against the Lakers.

On Friday, the Lakers lost by scores of 5-1 and 9-5.

Iowa Lakes mustered just five hits in the first game with Mike Adams going 2-3 with a double.

Marcel d'Avoine took the loss as he gave up five unearned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Beau Britton pitched an inning of relief and had one strikeout and one walk.

In the second game, Iowa Lakes took an early 2-0 lead, but couldn't overcome six Southeastern runs in the second inning. The Lakers finished with 10 hits led by Tavan Shahidi as he went 3-4 with an RBI. Bryce Rogokos and Adams each had two hits.

Mitch Sparks took the loss as he gave up eight earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Bransen Petersen, Mitch Ebben and Zach Meyer all pitched in relief.

Iowa Lakes had its chances on Saturday against host Southeastern, but lost two games by scores of 7-4 and 6-5.

In the first game, Iowa Lakes had taken a 4-2 lead after a three-run fifth inning. However, Southeastern rallied with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and then shut out the Lakers in the top of the seventh.

Drew Grubb pitched five innings and gave up four earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Joe Fitka pitched a third of an inning and took the loss as he gave up one earned run on two hits with one strikeout. Mitch Ebben pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up one run on one hit with two strikeouts.

Iowa Lakes had six hits with Bryce Rogokos going 2-4. Alex Bline had a hit and two RBI and Mikey Adams had a hit and an RBI.

In the second game, Iowa Lakes again had a late lead with a 5-4 advantage after six innings. But in the nine-inning contest, Southeastern tied the game in the bottom of the ninth and scored the walk-off run in the 10th.

Martin Eckard pitched six innings and gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Beau Britton pitched two innings of relief and gave up a hit. Ebben pitched an inning and gave up one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Zach Meyer pitched a third of an inning and gave up one run on one hit with two walks and a strikeout.

Iowa Lakes had just four hits in the game with Connor Mitchell hitting a solo home run. Ashtin Moxey had a triple and Jordan Deadwyler and Chad Hinkle each had a hit.
