Looking for an exercise challenge? Try the 2017 Defiance Extreme Trail Run.

The 5K trail run through Fort Defiance will test all ages and abilities.

The first heat starts at 10:30 a.m.

Due to the terrain and various starting waves, only the competitive heat will be timed. Any running in the competitive heat are required to complete the obstacles.

The final heat will be for joggers and walkers.

Participants may bring their stopwatch or GPS timer.

Registration can be found on the Estherville Chamber website at

New this year is that if you register a team of four or more people at one time, you receive $10 off the registration price. The early registration fee (prior to April 21) is $30 with the fee increasing to $35 after April 21.

Included in the entry fee is a 16-ounce glass mug with the race logo on it.

Plan to stay in Estherville for lunch after the race as many businesses will offer discounts or free beverages if you bring in the race mug.

Volunteers are needed at various points - particularly to help guide runners where the trail may be a bit confusing. Volunteers are also needed to help set up obstacles at the beginning of the race which will include tires, hay bales, a tile and a belly crawl.
