POCAHONTAS - The Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Golf Team came up with its second win of the year, defeating Pocahontas Area 218-247 on Tuesday.

Katherine Johnson led ELC with a 48 as she earned medalist honors. Pocahontas' Madison Grebner took top medalist honors with a 45.

"The girls had another very good night with a 218 team score," said ELC coach Kevin Richardson. "Katherine scored a 48, which is an excellent score early in the year."

Molly Diekmann and Gracie Schnell each carded a 56 while Megan Brunskill shot a 58. Non-counting scores were a 65 from Suzy Anderson and a 75 by Christina Jorgenson.

"Megan dropped her score five strokes from last night (Monday) to help with that low team score," said Richardson. "Christina played varsity for the first time and did a nice job; it is always a little nerve racking the first time. It is an excellent start for our varsity team."

ELC had just one junior varsity golfer as Vanessa Vedder shot a 77.

ELC is at Cherokee on Thursday and Algona on Friday.

PRIMGHAR - The Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Golf Team started the season by edging South O'Brien 227-225 on Monday at the Primghar Golf Course.

"We were missing three varsity players tonight and still shot and impressive open team score," said ELC coach Kevin Richardson.

Molly Diekmann earned runner-up medalist honors while Katherine Johnson and Gracie Schnell both shot a 56 and Megan Brunskill shot a 63. Non-counting scores were a 67 by Suzy Anderson and a 92 from Tiegan Huntley.

"The girls did a great job and shot a very good opening meet score winning by two strokes in the varsity meet," said Richardson. "Molly, Gracie and Katherine all had good rounds. South O'Brien gives medals for places 1 - 4; Molly was runner up medalist and Gracie and Katherine were tied for third (Katherine won third on handicap holes)."

South O'Brien's Ally Sweeney was medalist with a 47.

ELC's junior varsity shot a 284. South O'Brien did not have a JV.
