A number of people in attendance at the 2017 graduation of Estherville Lincoln Central High School have followed broken roads to get to where they are today. Distinguished alumnus Dale Breuer told the class, "It's a gift to be an ELC Midget."

People often discount, underestimate, and write off this school, Breuer said.

The advantage of being underestimated by others, Breuer said, is that with hard work, dedication, and persistence, any of the graduates, and any of us, can come from behind and achieve things no one ever expected.

Breuer, on behalf of the ELC Foundation, presented the Foundation scholarship to Gabriella Nicole Heckard.

Co-valedictorian Kevin Dong captured the audience's attention with his crowd-warming opening, "Let's hear some noise from the class of 2017!" he bellowed.

Dong said he would not have wanted to attend any school but ELC, recounted humorous stories that carried throughout high school, shouted out to some of his friends for their challenging and noble future plans, and said to the rest of the class, "I love you all."
