Barretts honor son with donations to local libraries

June 1, 2017
Estherville News

Over the past several years, Estherville Lincoln Central Boys' Track Coach Dick Barrett and his wife Shirley have given regular donations to create a special collection in the high school library in memory of their son, Michael "Mike" Barrett. Michael was a graduate of the Estherville High School class of 1991. He passed away in the year 2000 at the age of 27.

Dick was a long-time educator at Estherville and ELC and still serves as the boys' track coach. Dick is an avid reader, especially crime fiction, and shared this love with his son.

After their unexpected loss, Dick and Shirley began making regular donations from their collection to both the Estherville Public Library and the ELC High School Library. To date, Dick and Shirley have donated 149 books to the high school library.
