Harris pleads guilty to embezzlement

Cindy Joan Harris of Wallingford plead guilty in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa to one count of Bank Theft, Embezzlement, or Misapplication.

Her plea was entered May 24.

The U.S. Attorney's office said in their filing of charges:" from about 2002 and continuing through July, 2013, in the Northern District of Iowa and elsewhere, defendant Cindy Joan Harris, being an employee of the Emmet County State Bankwillfully misapplied, embezzled, abstracted, or purloined the sum of approximately $299,327.50, in cash and coin, which she took from the bank vault without the permission of the bank, and with the intent to defraud the bank."

Emmet County State Bank, owned for 85 years by the Currell family, merged with NorthStar Bank at the end of 2012. Harris will enter her official plea June 22 in federal district court.
