Lines were cast and poles extended as youth ages 8-15 got their hooks into Youth Fishing Day. Emmet County Conservation sponsored the local event, which had a high turnout on a warm, sunny day.

Eric Anderson, Emmet County Conservation Board director, said over 250 fish were caught and released from Jordet's Pond.

Evan Fisher and Colin Hanson tied for the boys with the most fish caught at 25 each. Abby Bodle caught 24 to take the leader spot for the girls.

The big fish stories went to Cale Burton with a 13 inch bass, James Richard with an eight inch perch, Helen Lavender with a 6.5 inch crappie, and Austin Lavender with a six inch bluegill.

Youth Fishing Day happens every year on the first Saturday in June. It's a day to encourage taking kids fishing in local fresh water areas.
