Engemann, Thompson run over Rockford

ARMSTRONG - After getting shut out a week ago against Okoboji, North Union won a shootout in the Warriors' home opener on Friday, defeating Rockford 52-27.

Derek Thompson rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries while Isaac Engeman had 91 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries, as they provided the bulk of the North Union offense.

Jordi Rodriguez contributed 33 yards and one touchdown on five carries.

Thompson ran in three two-point conversions while Jacob Bollinger and Engeman each ran in one.

North Union attempted just one pass all night with quarterback Robert Ortman connecting with Preston Brandenburg on a 17-yard play.

Defensively, Engeman was all over the field with eight solo tackles and 10 assists for a total of 13. He also had one sack.

Andrew Schiltz recorded three tackles for a loss including two sacks with 5.5 tackles on the night. Brady Anderson had 8.5 tackles and Brendan Anderson had seven. Ryan Lang also had a sack.

Thompson recovered a fumble.

North Union (1-1) goes on the road to Holstein next week to play Ridge View.
