Kristy Henning, director, and volunteers Larry and Marlene Walthart set out to pick apples for the second annual apple crisp fundraiser for the Emmet County Animal Shelter.

This year, the fundraiser will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church Thurs. Oct. 19 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Handcrafted apple crisp is $10 a pan, and freshly made lasagna $15 a pan. All proceeds go to the shelter, Marlene Walthart said. Marlene also will take advance orders at 712-380-4040. Gluten free and vegetarian options are available by pre-order only, Marlene said.

Marlene said, "With the holidays right around the corner, these treats will be ready for a last-minute gathering or to enjoy as a surprise for your family."
