A special meeting of the Armstrong City Council resulted in the firing of city attorney Brian Thul. Thul, based in Whittemore, had served the city since April.

Dave Grussing made the motion for removal and Bradley Lane seconded it. In a role call vote, Grussing, Nathan Anderson and Lane voted yes. Rhett Hiney voted no, Dan Moore was absent.

Moore said he was on the road for work and was given less than the required 24 hour notice of the meeting.

He was unable to interrupt his out of state job to return for the meeting with the abbreviated notice.

Thul was representing the city against the five complaints filed by Preston DeBoer of the Association of State, County and Municipal Employees (ASCME #61), and also representing council members Patty Thackery, Dan Moore, and Rhett Hiney against a citizens' petition for their removal from office.

Thackery and Hiney were defeated in the Nov. 7 city election.
