Roth, Cacek lead Titans to TLC title

GOWRIE- Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire crowned two Twin Lakes Conference champions in a Kolton Roth and Treyton Cacek and the Titans added four second-place finishes to win the tournament title for the second consecutive year on Saturday.

The conference features 10 wrestling schools and the Titans' ability to place in 13 of the 14 weights allowed them to win with 207 points. Emmetsburg didn't have any champions, but filled all the weights, which allowed the E'Hawks to finish second with 178.5 points.

Roth (138) breezed through the quarterfinal and semifinal, winning by fall in 27 seconds over Logan Crous of Manson-Northwest Webster and then pinning Pocahontas Area's Thomas Melohn in 2:41 to reach the first-place match. There, he defeated Emmetsburg's Spencer Griffin with a 13-3 major decision.

Cacek (170) pinned his way to the conference title, defeating Emmetsburg's Zach Yates in 51 seconds, Pocahontas' Daviontae Williams in 3:56 and Alta-Aurelia's Alex De Roos in 4:45.

Placing second for the Titans were Monte Matthews (113), Lucas Hoffman (132), Nate Larson (160) and Carter Murray (182).

Matthews had pins in the quarterfinal and semifinal before losing 7-3 to Southeast Valley's Colden Bethel in the title match.

Hoffman had a pin and a major decision on the way to the 132-pound title match, where he lost 3-0 to Southeast Valley's Trey Lawrence.

Larson (160) started the day with a major decision, then a 7-4 decision in the semifinal over Pocahontas' Tyler Res before losing 9-0 to South Central Calhoun's Brody Goodman in the final.

Murray (182) had two pins to reach the finals where he then had to medical forfeit to Southeast Valley's Kyler Fisher.

Placing third for GT/RA were Spencer Roth (152) and Blake Miller (195).

Brock Grimm (120) and Blake Schany (145) both placed fourth. Cade Stearns (106) and Hunter Naig (126) placed fifth. Kyle Rehm (285) placed sixth.

GT/RA returns to action this Friday and Saturday at the Herb Irgens Invitational, hosted by Battle Creek-Ida Grove.
