Warrior teams sweep North Iowa

NU cruises past Bison

BUFFALO CENTER - The Class 2A No. 12 North Union Girls Basketball Team trounced North Iowa in the teams' second meeting, 79-26, on Friday.

The Warriors had won 80-22 in the first meeting on Dec. 1.

In Friday's game, North Union jumped out to a 29-7 lead in the first quarter, led 47-9 at halftime and 68-14 after three quarters.

Chloe Lofstrom led North Union with 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting while making both her free throw attempts. Samantha Hagedorn tossed in 18 points to go along with eight assists and six steals. Bre Anderson went 4-of-4 from the field, including two 3-pointers, and 4-of-4 from the free throw line to finish with 14 points.

Hallie Reese finished with seven points while Kate Anderson had five, Brooklyn Prochniak had four and Kaylee Tirevold, Rory McClellan, Skyler Morphew and May Laverty each had two points. Victoria Laubenthal had one point.

North Union (13-0 overall) is home against Forest City on Tuesday.

Warriors avenge loss

BUFFALO CENTER - The North Union boys avenged an early season loss to North Iowa with a 57-55 victory over the Bison on Friday.

North Iowa had won the season opener for both teams, 60-39, on Dec. 1.

This time, the Bison led 18-16 after one quarter, 28-25 at halftime and 45-40 after three quarters, before the Warriors rallied to win the final period 17-10.

Riley Bauer led North Union with 19 points, including 10-of-11 from the free throw line. He also had eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Robert Ortman tossed 12 points while Blake Crawmer and Hunter Pierce each had seven points. Noah Morphew and Dillon Neusch each had four points and R.J. Hargrove had two points.

North Union (3-9 overall) is home against Forest City on Tuesday.
