GT/RA teams earn split with Pocahontas Area

Titan girls dominate after early deficit

POCAHONTAS - After falling behind 10-2 in the first quarter to Pocahontas Area, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire stepped up its play, outscoring the hosts 52-17 in the final three periods for a 54-27 victory on Friday.

The Titans rally began in the second quarter as they led 15-11 at half-time and 33-22 after three quarters.

Toni Alesch led the Titans with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Madison Hough tossed in 12 points and pulled down six rebounds to go along with four assists and three steals. She was 2-of-4 from 3-point range.

Madison Norris was 3-of-6 from 3-point range and finished with 11 points and three assists.

Anna Sorenson contributed seven points and six rebounds while Emma Heinrichs had four points and Taylor Park had three points. Chloe Bakken had three steals.

GT/RA (10-5 overall, 3-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference) hosts Alta-Aurelia in Ruthven on Tuesday.

Titan boys unable to complete rally

POCAHONTAS - An 19-3 first-quarter deficit was too much for the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire boys to overcome against host Pocahontas Area on Friday.

While the Titans rallied with an 18-8 second quarter to trail by just six, 27-21, at halftime, the Indians led 46-39 after three quarters and went on to win 71-58.

For GT/RA, Jacob Conlon finished with 19 points, seven assists and two steals while Tyson Kruse had 15 points. Tom Geelan finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Chris Conlon chipped in six points with eight rebounds while Brady Rosacker had three points and Kadin Norris had two.

GT/RA (7-5 overall, 3-3 in the Twin Lakes Conference) hosts Alta-Aurelia in Ruthven on Tuesday.
