The rapids on the West Fork of the Des Moines River burst through the layers of ice and snow over the weekend. After a brief warm up, temperatures will drop and the melting snow will turn to ice. The National Weather Service predicts two rounds of freezing rain will affect much of Iowa. The ice will result in hazardous travel conditions on untreated roads throughout Monday and with a second round of freezing rain from Monday evening into Tuesday.
