Dorothy grew up on a farm where she earned the affectionate nickname "Snort" from her dad, likely a result of her high energy shenanigans on the farm riding horseback, chasing chickens, and generally getting into mischief.

Dorothy received her education from Hawarden Schools, graduating in 1940. While in school, she was very active in many musical activities. Her senior year, she won a highly superior rating in the National Piano Contest in St. Paul, Minnesota. She attended summer music camps near the Methodist Camp at Okoboji for six summers and won a music scholarship to attend Morningside College from 1940-1944.

While at Morningside, she became a member of Mu Phi Epsilon honorary music sorority and Kappa Pi Alpha, a social sorority. She studied piano at Morningside with Mrs. Ethel Kucinski, whom she dearly loved. Mr. Leo Kucinski, her orchestra leader, was also very dear to her and she spent much time at their home, where she took lessons and babysat their daughter. She studied piano, chorus, orchestra, ear training, and gave many musical performances, all by heart. Though students were only required to give one recital a year, Dorothy often gave multiple recitals by request.

Following graduation, Dorothy taught music at Cleghorn, Kingsley, Lake Park, and Estherville, Iowa. She very much enjoyed working with young people.

She loved to dance and Dale and Dorothy's first date was spent on the dance floor. She married Dale Kenneth Green on May 3, 1947 on the farm in Hawarden.

Dorothy was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville and served as Elder and Deacon. Over the years she taught many Sunday school classes and youth choruses in the communities she lived.

Her hobbies included music, dancing, traveling around the United States and Europe, reading, and fishing. Her family was a very important part of her life. She loved time spent with all of them. She was a member of PEO in Hawarden and Estherville and was a founding member of Chapter AY in Estherville. She received her 50-year pin in 2009. She was a past member of ISEA, NEA, Retired Teachers, Eastern Star, and various church organizations.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Dale; daughters, Margaret Green of Minnetonka, MN and Ruth (Buck) Mroch of Beecher, IL; grandchildren, Mathew (Amber) Moorberg and their children, Oliver and Leena of Altoona, IA; Colby (Stacy) Moorberg of Manhattan, KS; Joseph (Katie) Moorberg of Estherville, IA; Dorothy's son, Dale Robert (Nancy) Green of Plainview, NE; grandchildren, Amy (Jeremy) Fletcher and their children Erick and Joshua of Iowa City, IA; Benjamin (Marie) Green and their daughter, Annalies of Indianola, IA; Lisa (Bill) Dammon and their children Emma and James of Indianola, IA; son-in-law, Kirk Waggie of Indianola, IA and his children, Dr. Aaron (Dr. Gabriel Schiffman) Waggie and their children, Noah and Ava Waggie Schiffman of Kansas City, KS; and many nieces and nephews.
