Nominations sought for Iowa Farm Environmental Leader awards

March 30, 2018
Estherville News

DES MOINES - Gov. Kim Reynolds, along with Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and Department of Natural Resources Director Chuck Gipp, encouraged Iowans on Monday to nominate farmers for the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award.

The award is a joint effort between the Governor's Office, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. It recognizes farmers who have taken voluntary action to improve or protect Iowa's environment and natural resources.

Farmers who are nominated should have made environmental stewardship a priority on their farms and incorporated best management practices into their farming operations.

As true stewards of the land, they should recognize that improved water quality and soil sustainability reap benefits that extend beyond their fields to citizens of Iowa and residents even further downstream.

Nominations are due by Friday, June 15, 2018. Winners will be recognized on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at the Iowa State Fair.

The nomination form, along with a list of previous awardees, can be found here.
