The Emmet County American Legion and Estherville VFW Post 3388 hope for a large turnout at the Taco Bar & Silent Auction happening next Saturday, April 14 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the VFW.

Modern Woodmen are providing matching funds to develop the Veterans Memorial Park. The park will be located at the northeast corner at Central Avenue and 18th Street on the south side of Homestead Cooperative, land the city of Estherville already owns.

The park will be the location of the Gold Star Family Memorial when it is completed in June, and also for a brick and stone walkway honoring not only veterans but also other heroes: law enforcement, firefighters and emergency workers.

Officials from the American Legion and VFW told the Estherville News they specifically wish to have law enforcement and firefighters honored in the park with them and enthusiastically invite their participation.

Saturday night's event also includes a silent auction and music from the Steve Mahin band starting at 6:30 p.m.
