SPIRIT LAKE - The Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Track Team started strong at the 2018 Lakes Conference Meet on Thursday, but didn't finish as well, according to coach Lincoln Vorba.

The Midgets did have two all-conference performers with Riley Christoffer placing second in the 200-meter dash in 28.05 seconds while Morgan White placed second in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet even.

"I really thought our girls handled the weather, handled the adversity well early on in the meet," said Vorba. "We had a great start in the field events, we had two places in the long jump-Mogan White and Ember Bechtel-and the discus-Lindsey Jensen and Faith Lutat. And to start, the sprint medley relay ran a season best by almost under 2 seconds. That was very good to see how those girls prepared. Those girls warmed up and fought threw the rain, perfect sticks."

"The biggest show of the night was the 3000, two of our distance girls Laura Humble and Gabi Rickard-phenomenal. Laura Humble gets a 40 second p.r. (personal record) and Gabi Rickard gets a 30-second p.r.

"Our 4x800 team finally came together. They dropped 10 seconds as a relay. We're looking to see how they can improve on it by next Thursday," Vorba said

The shuttle hurdle relay team also ran a season's best.

"After that, we lost focus and let the rain, let the weather take to control. We struggled to warm up. And we can't happen on a night like that. We need to be our best," Vorba said. "But I thought Adrienne Rosfjord had another great meet. Vanessa Woelber ran a p.r. in the 100 hurdles, Nevaeh ran a season best in the open 400.

"Now we're in peak week. We're trying to reach the fruits of our labor," Vorba concluded.

ELC travels to Emmetsburg today (Monday) before heading to Sheldon for the state qualifying meet on Thursday.
